Pre-Puberty Changes

Quite a few changes happen before even entering the puberty stage, most children will:

These changes happen naturally but at varying degrees to children, so no one child is exactly alike another.

Interesting Fact: Many children will have growing pains during their life until they reach adulthood. To ease these symptoms many people treat them like sports injuries, applying warm heat to the painful area, stretching and gently massaging it to make the pain go away.

Puberty For Males

Early signs of puberty in males usually start 1 year later than females. The first sign is Testes(plural for testicle) growing larger and the Scrotum thinning and reddening. This happens generally around 11 years of age but can actually start early or later usually between 9 and 14 yrs old.

The second major puberty sign, growth spurts, usually happen 2 years after males have begun puberty.

Interesting Fact: if a male begins puberty before the age of 9 or doesn’t show signs of puberty by the age of 14 it is recommend that they see a pediatrician and have a full examination.

Puberty for males can be a very confusing time, they will be going about many different changes in their physiology and hormones. The following is a list of changes that generally happen in males to a greater or lesser extent.

Interesting Fact: Gynecomastia is usually harmless and resolves itself within 2 years, but in the event a male does has signs of gynecomastia it is recommended that he be evaluated by pediatrician, especially so when he is prior to puberty or in late adolescence.

Puberty For Females

Early signs of puberty in females usually start around the age of 10, with some starting as early as 8 and others not starting until 13 yrs of age. The most common sign for a female starting puberty is breasts budding or growing.

Interesting Fact: If a female has started puberty before 8 years of age or hasn’t started by the age 13, it is highly recommended by doctors that she be examined by a trained pediatrician.

Puberty for females can be a very confusing time, they will be going about many different changes in their physiology and hormones. The following is a list of changes that generally happen in females to a greater or lesser extent

Interesting Fact: Beginning with puberty many females start to become interested in love and acting it out with other people, this can be scary for their parents, but should be treated calmly and explained thoroughly by their parents or legal guardians. If needed outside resources are available online that can be used as tools for teaching young females.
